“It takes one step to go from light to dark, and a thousand steps to go back.”

Door Knob

There is something about a doorknob. Something so insignificant and small has the ability of causing an itch in a person’s heart and mind. The sudden urge to hold the doorknob, twist it and open the door to see what’s on the other side? The curiosity, if not suppressed at the right moment, has the ability to take over a person’s nafs [ego]. Direct him or her according to their desires. Desires that require burning many bonds and relations in the fire of greed, and lead to nothing but ashes at the end.

**********************************

“Look. This is not a good idea. What you’re thinking is –”

“Is what? Wrong in the eyes of certain people? So be it”

“ How are you going to get through with this. You don’t even know where you are headed, and don’t forget the hell that would break loose when Mom and Dad find out your plans”

“They won’t. My life. My plans. They don’t need to know anything that’s not about them”

The amount of pain in his eyes was unbearable as those words escaped his tongue. He immediately lowered his gaze to hide the glistening droplets of guilt trying to escape his eyes. To some extent he knew that the step he was about to take was going to shake the earth beneath the feet of his loved ones. That’s not what he feared though. He was afraid of the regret he would be living with for the rest of his life, if he didn’t take this step. This was a “once in a life time” chance. Is there a choice?

“Will you please at least think about it once more before you go ahead with this plan? I can’t see you fall. That’s my only weakness”

For her, the pain was in her voice. The shaking voice barely able to make its way out. After every sentence she spoke, she would take a small sip from her cup to stop her throat from closing in. She couldn’t hold it in anymore. She wished to just grab him by the hand this very second, and drag him with her. She wanted to put him back on the right path, but she couldn’t. His changed perspective, his selfish words, his determination made it difficult to even breathe, let alone try to change his thoughts. Is it too late?

He sat there circling his finger around his cup, and gazing out into space. The only thought lingering around in his head was of his plans and future dreams. Something he would very shortly pursue. There was so much dust in his eyes, that it made his plans and destination look like heaven from afar. The dust of Dunya. Like cocaine and heroine it can also have quite a magical affect. Was it going to last forever?

After another quiet moment of sitting and thinking wishfully about the future he stood up from his seat and began to pack his belongings. As he packed his suitcase, she sat there helplessly staring at him. It was like watching someone fall into a well, except she couldn’t reach out and help him. He was preparing himself to go down that path purposely, and that was as painful as watching an innocent Humming bird being swept up by a Vulture.

“I’m taking my phone with me, in case you need to contact me. Though, I will be changing my number once I get there.”

He could not let a single thing holding him back. Not his parents, not his friends, not even his past. But he couldn’t say goodbye to his sister. She was testing his patience. He wanted to get her out of his sight, so she wouldn’t make him feel guilty about his decision. But each time he tried, her shaking voice and tearful eyes held him back. There was something about the way she stared at him, that made him want to turn back for the slightest second. Did he feel helpless too?

He drifted his gaze away from hers, trying to avoid any second thoughts and continued with his packing. The excitement he felt as he packed his belongings in his suitcase. The inner rush he felt each time he pictured himself reaching his destiny. The destiny that was still unknown. But he didn’t care. He was going to find it. He was ready to start a new life. A life where he would be the focus of attention, and no one else. That had become his motto for the last few years: Me myself and I. When he finished packing he gave her another look, as she still sat there staring at her feet now. It was too difficult to make eye contact with him for the last time. A sight that would be so unbearable, yet haunt her for the rest of her life without him. But there was one more thing she had to ask him. Just one last question before she lost him to the darkness of the Dunya.

“What are you going to gain by doing this? By hurting all your loved ones, do you really think you can live a happy life?”

He gave her one last glance before he lowered his gaze again, only this time to cover the shame in his eyes, and quietly walked out. As the door slammed behind him, her heart felt a sudden shock that made tears break out from her eyes like a gushing river. Staring at the door from which he had left, her eyes  were set upon the doorknob.

Allah (swt) says: "The worldly life is nothing but substance of deception."
“If the root of evil is treated and cured, all other maladies flowing from it will also disappear. A man overwhelmed by Hubb-e-dunya has no concern and time for the Aakhirah. Such a person having no care for the Aakhirah will not be bothered about righteous deeds nor will he abstain from evil. The one in whom there is Hubb-e-dunya has very little Fikr for the Deen. Increase in the degree of Hubb-e-dunya brings about a corresponding decrease in Fikr (concern) for the Deen. Total Hubb-e-dunya entails total lack of Fikr for the Deen.”

“There’s much more to life when you’re free. And in time you will find all the answers. Don’t have to lose your pride, hold on to what’s inside.”

Good Day!

How are you lovely strangers, readers, bloggers?

So summer here has O F F I C I A L L Y started *insert happy dance here*

With the start of a beautiful summer also comes a GREAT LOAD of Apathy. Too lazy to go out, too lazy to work, too lazy to clean blah blah blah! I’ve decided to AVOID apathy at any cost, so I’m going to start on a project: RENOVATION AND DECORATION starring THE BEDROOM!

To be honest with you I have never actually decorated a bedroom before. I would just take what I got and live with it. My room used to literally be just a single bed, desk, drawer chest, praying mat, and a little mirror, but recently I got a proper DARK brown coloured furniture set, so I thought I would decorate my room to compliment it! And since I’m a newbie to this whole thing, I need IDEAS, so give me what you got…

  • Sophisticated
  • Funky
  • Dark
  • Light
  • Springy
  • Summery
  • Autumny
  • Old school
  • Revolutionary
  • Preppy
  • Abstract
  • Romantic [just kidding]

Just throw ‘em at me, I would love to hear them all!

Thanks for all your help, you lovely bloggers you!

Take care ;]

A compliment. A wishful thought. Just for you…

“Nikah (marriage) is my Sunna. He who shuns my Sunna is not of me.”

- The Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him)

Muslim couple

Ever seen a coin? It has two sides, and that’s the only thing that makes it complete. The only thing that gives it value. If you were to go to a shop, and pay with a single sided coin the shopkeeper would reject it would he not? What’s a tail without head?

Similarly, what is our future without our past? The present is made up of the past. The future will be made of the present. Our past experience, mistakes, and decisions made us who we are today. Everything we learn, experience, and decide today will make us who we are tomorrow, will it not? And what about  our goods and our bads? Our strengths and our weakness. One compliments the other, and in the bigger picture they all complete us as a whole.

It amazes me how Allah (swt) has created this world. Everything has a reason, a purpose and one thing appreciates the other. The best part of it all is that regardless of if we have a past to compliment the future, a good side with the bad, we are still incomplete until we find our second half. The soul mate. A partner that accepts our goods and our bads. Our past and our future. Our Strengths and our weaknesses, and loves us for who we are. And of course…complete the Big picture at the end. ;]

This one’s for you. Happy Wedding anniversary.

“And if tomorrow brings a lonely day, you know you can look back at the still frames of today”

Grad

A sea of royal blue gowns surrounds you as each wave gently flows down the red carpet one after the other. At every descending step on the red carpet you glance around to admire the millions of twinkling lights and proud smiles. The sound of the cheers land gently in your ears like the high notes of a symphony. You nervously walk behind stage stumbling over the tangled wires and cords connected to hundreds of tiny tube televisions around you. Each of those screens display the thousands of people with their flashing cameras and crystal breaking cheers. You catch a glimpse of the spotlight from behind the velvet black curtains. You see two bodies hugging, as the cheers get louder and louder. Two hands shake each other as the televisions zoom in to give full details of the two faces. For the slightest second you think of turning back but your feet seem to be frozen. The voice of the Master of Ceremony echoes in your ear, and at each thundering clap your heart skips a beat.

Something is missing.

You are approached by a small voice behind you, “Congratulations my dear. Here is your diploma.”, she says handing you a leathered navy blue book with your name gleaming on it in gold inscription. “Don’t forget to smile”, you hear the voice slightly fading as you take steps closer and closer to that spotlight. A shining circle of white light hovers over you as you stand there with a slight grin on your face, waiting for your name to be announced.

Another red carpet lies in front of you and you lift your head slightly to see a wise gentleman waiting on the other side of the carpet to congratulate you. That glimmering circle of light follows you as you proudly make your way to the end of the red carpet. You smile at him as you both stretch out your right hands at the same time. He embraces your hand and shakes it with a warm congratulation. “Here we are. Three years in the making and you have finally done it. Congratulations Ma’am”, his lips seem to speak. You can hardly hear his voice over the cheering crowd, so you simply exchange smiles and walk on ahead to the stairs leading you off the stage.

As your left foot approaches to take the first step down the stairs it is met with a pair of slick black dress shoes. You glance up to see a familiar face reaching out his curved arm, inviting you to put your hand through so he can escort you down the steps. The two of you walk down the five steps and as you reach the last step he whispers quietly into your ear, “Are you shocked to see me as your escort?”. “Well after seeing you in a lab coat dissecting eyeballs for three years, it is quite a different sight”, you whisper jokingly. With a slight chuckle he reaches his hand down into a box behind him and turns around holding a beautiful rose. “Congratulations my dear”, he hands you the rose.

With your blue leather book and the rose in your hand you make your way back up the red carpeted stairs to blend back in with the sea of royal blue gowns. There is a strange smile on your face as you watch the rest of your mates walk the stage, hovered by that same white light. You applause and scream with the rest of the crowd as the night prolongs, and each one of them has their proud moment under the spotlight.

Something is still missing.

At the end of the ceremony when you slip out of your gown and walk into the ballroom, the whole scene around you changes. In every corner thee are bright lights, and gleaming decors of blue and silver. The juvenile boys and girls dressed ever so elegantly for the occasion. There is nothing but joyful tears and smiling faces all around you, but you don’t notice any of them. All your eyes can see is your family searching the room anxiously to find you. And when they do spot you…you’ve found what you were missing…

A perfect moment.
“A perfect moment is an experience with others when time stands still. It is a time full of the present, when the past is left behind and the future is set aside. It is a special time of focused attention and heightened awareness. Interruptions and distractions are consciously excluded. Cell phones are off. Hearts are wide open. All that matters is this moment—the people I am with and the conversation we are having now.”

“It's on and poppin' And we ain't stoppin' Let's light up the night. Let’s light up the night”

hello

Hi Bloggers and Readers,

How are all you lovely people doing in your corners of the world?

This is going to be another “drop-in-say-hi-and-leave-a-story-for them-to-ponder-upon-until-next-time” post.

I’m two weeks away from the Finals and so I won’t be back until they are over and out of the way. Also, I might be taking a flight straight to visit my Aunt and her kids who I refer to as my BABIEEES, after the last exam. They are about to have another baby sibling soon, so I am supposed to go there and take care of them while Aunty is in the hospital, so you may not hear from me till much later.

Having said that, I have another lovely story that I am going to leave you with. I was studying extremely hard and efficiently while browsing Facebook, ;] and came across this beautiful note! After reading this you will probably want to go do something nice for your Parents!

Enjoy and I will see you soooon insha’Allah! <3

Ps. A very warm welcome to the new followers. =]

PENCIL: I'm sorry

ERASER: For what? You didn't do anything wrong.

PENCIL: I'm sorry because you get hurt because of me. Whenever I made a mistake, you're always there to erase it. But as you make my mistakes vanish, you lose a part of yourself. You get smaller and smaller each time.

ERASER: That's true. But I don't really mind. You see, I was made to do this. I was made to help you whenever you do something wrong. Even though one day, I know I'll be gone and you'll replace me with a new one, I'm actually happy with my job. So please, stop worrying. I hate seeing you sad.

LESSON: Parents are like the eraser whereas their children are the pencil. They're always there for their children, cleaning up their mistakes. Sometimes along the way, they get hurt, and become smaller / older, and eventually pass on. Though their children will eventually find someone new (spouse), but parents are still happy with what they do for their children, and will always hate seeing their precious ones worrying, or sad…However our parents are getting smaller and smaller each day…One day, all that we would be left with will be eraser shavings and memories of what we used to have.

Allah, Most Wise admonishes us: "Thy Lord hath decreed that ye worship none but Him, and that ye be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honour. And, out of kindness, lower to them the wing of humility, and say: My Lord! Bestow on them thy Mercy even as they cherished me in childhood."

(Quran-17:23)

“Roaming around and looking down at all I see. Painted faces fill the spaces I can’t reach. You know that I could use somebody”

little girl

Can you hear it?

The little voice inside your head.

The pep talks. The tough decisions. The motivation. The hope.

It’s there through them all. There’s no doubt about it.

It is just one of those things that you take for granted.

Never to think that you would ever lose that voice.

Gosh! What would happen if you did?

No pep talks. No motivations. No hopes.

Just blank space giving birth to apatheism.

When the flowers begin to bloom.

When the green world around you dances under the pale blue sky.

When the sun takes over the days again, leaving long lasting energy.

When the rain comes down at nights to have whispers with the sweet wet grass.

That little voice decides to slowly disappear.

Like a little girl sneaking out of her mother’s sight on a crowded street.

An early vacation is it?

To enjoy the four months of summer before the cold nights take over the days again.

To catch up with the cool breeze and the waving waters.

Leaving you behind, when it is all that you need.

Can you still hear it?

Yours Truly

“Open wide and say ‘Aaaaaaaaaa’”

The big ONE EIGHT happened on Thursday. No biggy.

Let me give you some deets on how birthdays are celebrated at True’s house:

They’re not.

Once in every two or three years if we get together with the relatives or friends on one of our birthdays we may choose to cut some candles and blow some cake ;] but apart from that, it is quite rare to celebrate each family members’ birthdays each year. Personally, I am alright with that. When it comes to my birthday I would rather not have a big celebration or a huge cake, and most importantly, surprises. I dislike those. But when it’s someone else’s birthday, I am willing to do all those things, plus ten =D.

Thursday morning before leaving the house,I was given a birthday hug from the youngest one and the a punch on the shoulder from the other, and that was basically all I was expecting. Apparently the little ones had something totally different planned:

BirthdayCake

I was too shocked and awed at first to say anything, so my first reaction to the cake was really this: =O. They little ones were so sneaky and clever about the whole thing, and the whole time I was home I had no clue there was a cake and cameras being set up in the dining room awaiting me. It was the cutest thing ever, and a real justification for the crappy weak I was having. When I was finally able to close my mouth and put together some words, my first question to my siblings was, “Why is this cake purple? What happened to getting the Chocolate Lava that you two loveee soo much?”. At hearing that, my youngest one looked up at me like I had just asked the most stupid question ever! “Purple is your favourite colour, that’s why we bought this one. It looked preeeettyyy”, she replies with such innocence, it made me smile for ages. Heck! I’m smiling as I type this! She left me speechless again, and I decided to retain from saying or asking anything after that and went on with the cutting ceremony so we could all enjoy some beautiful 'purple cake’.

When I was a little girl, my Mom told me: ‘Allah (swt) did not create us for that one day. We were made to survive each and every day of our lives, and Thank him for that on all 365 days, five times a day.’ God bless my Mom for putting that realization into my heart at such a young age, and since then I never really care much for birthdays. All these years I’ve followed her advice closely, and thank The Almighty each and everyday for the life I have. However, there is one blessing that I don’t remember to count each and everyday and Thursday’s birthday surprise made me realise just that. The overpowering love of my family that I’m blessed with is beyond comparison to anything in this world, even my own life. Ironically, this time it was the little ones who put that realisation in my heart and I cannot thank them enough.
